Editing — What Type Do You Need?
Copy-editing
The "nuts and bolts" – checking spelling, grammar, punctuation, accuracy, consistency, American/British/Canadian English, image captions, etc.
You need this if you're happy with your general writing and the structure of your text, but you want somebody to look for typing mistakes and inadvertent slip-ups
Line Editing
I'll correct and reword sentences to improve their clarity and fix awkward phrasing without altering your style and message
I will ensure your text is readable and powerful
You need this if you want to make sure your sentences flow properly, you're not being repetitive, and each paragraph makes sense
Developmental/Substantive Editing
The "big picture" – are any points missing? Are the paragraphs in the most effective order? Is your message clear? For fiction, do the characters grab the reader? Do plot threads tail off?
You need this if you are working on an early draft and are uncertain what should go where, or how you should say it
Website Editing
I'll check that the spelling, punctuation, and grammar are correct, and all your links work properly
I can also suggest additional links and text, and review the site's functionality
