Here is a rough guide to the minimum rates* and how long each type of work might take. If you send me more details about what you need, I can give you a more accurate price and let you know about potential discounts. I'll edit or proofread the first 250 words for free to show you whether I am the right editor for you.

Editing

• Copy-editing – checking spelling, grammar, etc.
  2p/3¢ per word, 5-8 pages/hour*

• Line – improving word usage and readability
  3p/3¢ per word, 1-5 pages/hour

• Developmental or substantive – analysing a text's structure and flow
  3p/3¢ per word, 1-5 pages/hour

• Website editing
  £30/$50 per hour

Proofreading

• Standard text
  2p/3¢ per word, 5-8 pages/hour

• Complex or technical
  4p/4¢ per word, 4-6 pages/hour

Formatting

• 1p/1.5¢ per word

Writing

Prices depend on the time, research, consultation, and rewriting involved, but here is a guide:

• Proposals, marketing, PR, journalism
  £25/$40 per hour

• Technical/trade
  £30/$45 per hour

* A page is classed as 250 words, and my rates are based on those suggested by the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and Editorial Freelancers Association.
